Eskasoni Judo Club Had Excellent Showing at NS Provincials

They went there with no expectations and returned home as Champions. This is what happened when the Eskasoni Judo Club made an excellent showing at the 2011 Provincial Championships held at Mount Saint Vincent University on June 6th/11. 

An impressive 29 medals were earned by the Eskasoni Judo Club in the Provincial competition which included competitors from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.

During the opening ceremonies, Sensei Mike MacInnis received the 2011 Community Coach of the Year award which he shares with his son Dylan who has worked so hard to bring success to both the Cape Breton Judo Club and the Eskasoni Judo Club. 

The Eskasoni Judo Club continues to do well in competition and at the club level. Sensei Mike and Dylan MacInnis and Club Manager, Brenda MacInnis have been busy operating two Judo clubs which have helped to provide healthy social and recreational opportunities for more than one hundred people each year.

Eskasoni Judo Club have been in existence for over three years and have over 70 members registered with Judo Nova Scotia/Judo Canada.  The Eskasoni Judo Club have weekly classes at NADACA and students can attend classes in Sydney.  

Sensei Mike MacInnis, has great hopes for his students and added, “We will continue to groom our athletes in hopes that we will have potential candidates for the 2015 Jeux Canada Games.” Sensei Mike has been Head Coach for the 1991 games and also attended the 2007 games in Whitehorse as a NS Mission staff member.

Mike and Brenda MacInnis have been working with the Eskasoni Judo Club and have great praise for their students. They said, “The pay off for so much volunteer work are the smiles on the children’s faces and the chance of a lifetime to share meaningful experiences and a healthy sense of belonging that only a great Judo Club can bring.”   

The Eskasoni Judo Club is a NADACA Drug Prevention program which promotes healthy, active living and is supported by the Eskasoni band.
